History: Bernard was born as the younger and unexpected twin of a pair born to a rich family. Sickly and albino, he was fairly quickly ignored in favor of his twin brother, Lyonel. He was never actively abused or hurt, he was just pushed into the background. Lyonel was the favorite, the darling, the heir to the family - Bernard was an afterthought at best. He spent most of his time not in the hospital hiding in his room and reading manga, shut off from the world, only appearing for meals at which he was never spoken to.

He began to develop an obsession with his older brother - after all, everyone else seemed to think of him as perfect, so surely it had to be true. He began to copy his brother's mannerisms, his quirks of behavior. When Lyonel refused all food but sweets, Bernard started buying jars and jars of jam. When Lyonel started to refer to himself as simply 'L', Bernard began calling himself 'B'. If anyone noticed the mimicry, they did not comment.

Then, one day, the idea hit him. His parents loved L. Surely they'd love B, too, if he could simply be L instead of himself. It wouldn't even take much effort - B looked like a paler, red-eyed L, after all - and so it wasn't long before he was ready.

One day, B slipped into his room and emerged with hair died black, skin painted with foundation, and dark eyes. He spent a few hours with his parents like this, finding that they really did treat him better when he was like L - but when his brother returned home, the moment was broken.

After that, though, B always dyed his hair and always wore the contacts. While his parents mostly learned to spot the difference, sometimes he could get away with it for a few hours if he caught them off-guard. They quickly gave up on getting him to stop, and L found himself with a perpetual clone.

Eventually, L was sent off to Ambrose, while B was sent to military school in a final attempt to break his habit of copying L. After a few months he faked the treatment having worked well enough that his parents grudgingly decided it would be alright for him to go to Ambrose as well.

He re-dyed his hair and found his contacts again, and a few nights later he was there with L again. He's been following his brother obsessively ever since his arrival.
Personality: B is mentally unwell. He has a deeply unhealthy obsession with his brother, and considers L to be the absolute center of all existence, refusing to even consider faults in the man. However, in order to gain L's attention, he's willing to use any means necessary - including violence against anyone, even L himself. As long as L looks at him, any means are worth it.

He needs attention (especially from L) desperately, and feels worthless much of the time as himself. In order to make himself into something that is worthy of love, he constantly copies L, trying to make himself exactly like his brother in every way.

Below the madness, though, there lies a sweet, shy young man with a love for shoujo anime and jam. B, when he is being his real self, can be quite cute in an awkward way, and he's eager to please those he likes. However, this aspect of himself is twisted and warped by what's happened to him.
Results of Experimentation: B's eyes have been enhanced unnaturally. Not only has his previously terrible vision been strengthened considerably, he can now see faintly in the dark - and, more importantly, he can see people's names above their heads as glowing letters. However, the entire world now appears for him in shades of red, and he is effectively colorblind.
